ABOUT THE BRACELETS

Our GivingTuesday gift bracelets were traditionally handcrafted by Maasai women and girls in the communities we work. Faced with increasing drought due to climate changes, the unique and celebrated beadwork created by Maasai women now offers a critical source of income to families. Bracelets come in two main styles, shown below. Colors will vary due to the custom handcrafted nature of each bracelet.

GETTING TRADITIONAL BRACELETS ON AND OFF YOUR WRIST!

Traditional Cuff

These gorgeous, traditional Maasai bracelets are tight-fitting and slide onto your wrist with soap and water. Colors and patterns vary. Geometric designs are common.

Traditional style Maasai bracelets don’t have snaps and are meant to be worn snugly. Note that the proper fit will actually initially seem too small as it won't be able to go immediately over the knuckles! Getting them on requires a bit of care. Follow the steps below for success!

  • Step One: Lather up your entire hand and the bracelet with soap and warm water until sudsy.

  • Step Two: Open up the bracelet with your other hand and slowly begin sliding your fingers through. When you get to your thumb knuckle, this will be the part where you’re certain your bracelet is too small because it won’t immediately fit over your wrist! Keep sudsing up and gently maneuvering. Eventually your hand should slide through.
