OLENTARAKWAI VILLAGE PRESCHOOL
“When I saw these beautiful girls and boys and how they were not being educated, I felt pain in my heart. That is what motivated me to start talking with the community about opening an ECD school closer to Olentarakwai.”- Ann Muntati
Olentarakwai is the site of a preschool that our intern Ann Muntati opened after recognizing that younger children in her village weren’t attending their primary and pre-primary classes because the nearest school and ECD center was too far for them to safely walk to. A local church donated their space to start the school, and close to 100 children now attend each day.
“The parents had told me the biggest problem was that when it rains and the river [near Olmesutie] begins flowing, the small children cannot safely pass,” explained Ann, describing her motivation to help the community organize to open the school. Now, with this school, we can keep children educated –and safe.”
