We began working in Oltarakuai and Kitilikini in 2021 through the outreach work of two new Team Angaza interns, Evelyn and Beatrice. Their tireless effort to listen to local parents’ concerns about education for the daughters and share benefits of education for girls is now reaching countless families in this remote region, populated by a different sub tribe of Maasai called the Purko Maasai.
Parents at Oltarakuai are highly motivated to open a day secondary in their village so that more students like Nelly, pictured at right, have an opportunity to continue past 8th grade. Nelly graduated from primary school and was accepted to a boarding school to start high school in May, 2022. Her parents will be able to support at least the first year of her secondary education. Once the new day school is open, she and other students will still have an opportunity to continue their education if her parents’ ability to fund her boarding schoo run out in the secod year, which is a common occurrence.
