VIVIAN: PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT
Twelve-year-old Vivian was at the top of her class at Kajiampau Primary School in Kenya, in Tharaka-Nithi County, the region we started our work in 2015.
Vivian is an example of the confidence and agency that often get enhanced in Kenyan girls when they are encouraged to not just go to school, but supported to do well. Vivian was one of the top students in her school, and as a class prefect, helped lead recess games and monitor the classroom to help fill in the gap of the lack of teachers; four teachers worked to teach eight classrooms at the time we visited Kajiampau.
